| The free software out there |
[12 Aug 2008|03:40pm] |
What are the leading brands of free (shareware or open source) 2D painting programs out there?
I was familiar with the shareware program paint shop pro many years ago, but as it was bought up by Corel and now seems to be phased out, I'd rather jump ship. My needs center around making rather simple graphics for the layout of a blog and probably to make some technical illustrations, so vector graphics would be a plus, but I can always use Microsoft Office for designing flowcharts so it's not essential. I might also do some touch-up of digital photos, in fact I'd just like to have a good general purpose program installed :-)

so a couple friends and i are planning a surprise party for a good friend on friday. well, today we went down to art media and got a really large poster, that has a really papery feeling to it but is thick enough so it supports itself and can stand up propped against a wall or something. our idea was that people (~30) could sign it and write a little note.
we wanted to decorate the poster really cool. we want to put her name somewhere on it, and possibly include some pictures? but since they would be printed off the computer and not super nice, i was thinking maybe working them into a collage somehow?
ideas please? any pictures of anything that you think would look cool on the poster? we need inspiration.
we don't have that much time to do it, so nothing that takes 24 hours to dry or something. thanks so much!

Hey, I was wondering if anyone knew of any tutorials that show how to color eyes in Photoshop (Photoshop elements). Any other tutorials regarding coloring/drawing people (hair, mouth, etc.) would also be appreciated. Thanks! ♥

For my portfolio to get into an art school that I really want to go to. I have to have figure drawings, life drawings and Show motion in some of them. I need help with showwing motion in them and I also wanted to know if any of you had any tutorials that could help me. I sometimes get the body right when drawing but can't get the face to look like the person. I don't know why I try and measure and I still can't, Especially when I draw the persons whole body on the paper.(since the head is smaller then the size of the whole face on a paper)

Anyone recommend any good books on using/coloring with markers?
Parsons is a pretty traditional school in the sense that it bashes your head about using gouache paints the first year of fashion. But now the teachers are a bit more relaxed and are letting kids use markers for their sketches, which is the industry standard.
So can anyone recommend any good books on learning how to use markers? I checked amazon, and one of the ones that was recommended IS IN BLACK AND WHITE. That sounds so stupid and useless to me.
Also, anyone have a preference on types of markers? I know the two big ones are prismacolor and copic.

I also need help with this;
1) watercolor pencils: how easy are they to master tutorial sites sample sites anyone here using them, can I see samples? Of all the styles, what I have seen, I think I wanna try them the most
2) color pencils same. wanna see samples I got a set of 24, but have not done anything yet. I wonder if I can wet the traces I make to make the drawing smoother.
That would be all. I hope someone came around and said something. I don't know if I have set this (or even if I can do it) so I receive notification if anyone posts and answer.
Ciao!

OKAY GUYS! I'm new here and I need help. Lots and lots of help. Right now, I can draw anime pretty well, but I need much much help in anatomy. Also, I'm starting to learn how to draw furries (anthros) and TLK (The Lion King) style. I..uh..can SORTA draw furries, but TLK is /waaay/ outta my league. If anyone has any good tutorials or tips for drawing any of these, I would greatly appreciate you sharing them with me ^_~ Thanks in advance!!

Hey guys :D
I was wondering if anyone new some wonderfull tutorial or sketch reffies of animals like hyenas, deer, meerkats, cows etc? horses, dogs, birds and lions are easy to find, and for some reason i learn better from other's sketches and pointing out of certain anatomical features. Rather than photos, generally blurry :\
Also, anyone have advice for digitally painting trees and reflective water?
THANK YOU! <3

Hello, everyone.
I was just wondering if you guys could help me. You see, I'm doing an architecture project in art at school and I haven't a clue what I can put it my final drawing. I'd like to use a building like Whitby Abbey in it and I'd also like to use a stone bat and stone roses. Could anyone conjure anything up from that or just give me some general ideas as I'm completely stuck? Thanks.
Love HL x

| Books for art students on drawing |
[26 May 2006|12:15pm] |
Hello All,
I have just found and joined this community.
I hope to get an advice from people who may recommend good books for art students studying drawing - in English or Russian. I found some books in Toronto Public library - and most of them seem not for the arts students, but for people who do drawing as a hobby. I believe there must be some books for people who want to study to become a professional - which would go through the basic techniques with depth and detail.
Many thanks in advance for your input. :))

Not sure if anyone cares, or desires, but I'm painting beer bottles on camera this morning (8 am EST until I run out of energy or bottles, whichever happens first). I set it up originally so a friend could watch.
Yahoo Messenger - user achanchinou. Request to view, and wait a short bit for auth. Using Van Gogh water mixable oils on gessoed Miller Genuine Draft beer bottles (got 'em from a friend). ;)
